The National Tourism Agency hosted during a two-day visit to Tirana, the Director of New Markets and Projects at the Swiss Tourism Organization (SWTO), Mr. Federico Sommaruga. The meetings, chaired by the General Director of AKT, Ms. Zana Çela, began at the premises of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, where Ms. Herida Duro, Director of Tourism Program Development, was also present, where the main focus was on creating new opportunities for cooperation between the respective institutions. This meeting also served as a workshop for AKT staff in the framework of new forms of digital promotion and not only.
The tour with Mr. Sommaruga had several stops, starting with the ancient Amphitheatre of Durrës and the Venetian Tower, two important symbols of our cultural heritage. Mr. Sommaruga expressed his admiration for this visit and emphasized that Albania's rich monumental historical heritage must be preserved and efforts must be made to put it to use for tourism development.
Then at the Duka Canteen, one of the successful models of agrotourism, Director Sommaruga was introduced to the flavors of traditional Albanian food and the hospitality offered as an important element of our identity. The visit ended with a stop at the Meliá Durrës Resort, where after a conversation with the General Manager of this resort, Juan Tunon Cifre, Director Sommaruga expressed his appreciation for this resort, as one of the best structures in Europe of this group of resorts.
The National Tourism Agency expresses its confidence that in the future, it will gain the trust of such important partners as the Swiss Tourism Organization to gain the best experiences of counterpart Agencies.
