Traditional dishes

The traditional cuisine of Mallakastra reflects the simplicity and authentic taste of the area, shaped by the use of local products and the influences of the traditions of southern Albania. The foods of the area are mainly based on meat, fresh vegetables, cereals and milk, creating rich and nutritious recipes.

One of the most popular specialties is white beans with sour meat or with various leaves, often accompanied by seasonal salads and fresh olive oil. Traditional pies, filled with white cheese, spinach or meat, are widespread in every home and are used on family holidays and special days. Another characteristic dish is meat and vegetable casseroles, prepared in a stone oven, which preserve the aroma of local products and authentic taste.

Mallakastra is also known for canned foods, such as pickles and stuffed peppers, as well as simple cakes made with flour, eggs and honey, which are usually served at parties and family occasions. The hospitality of the area and the value of local products make the cuisine of Mallakastra not only food for the body, but also part of the cultural identity and tradition of the community.
