Tejs is a tourist village included in the “100 Tourist Villages” program. It is part of the Kala e Dodës Administrative Unit and lies at the foot of Albania’s highest mountain, Korab, at an altitude of approximately 1500 meters above sea level. The village is part of one of the longest and most important hiking trails along the Deshat-Korab mountain range, which starts from Maqellara and ends at Kala e Dodës.
Another tourist trail, connecting to the main route, passes through the village from the town of Peshkopia. This trail is also popular among motorcyclists and car rally enthusiasts.
During the winter, the village is covered in snow for several weeks, making it ideal for skiing. Tejs offers guesthouses and restaurants, with ongoing initiatives to improve accommodations for visitors. Just a two-hour walk from the village is the peak of Korab, the highest mountain in the Balkans.
The village is known for its traditional stone houses with thatched roofs and is well connected to the national road Peshkopi–Tirana, as well as to the mountains near Tetovo and Prizren, sharing common regional corridors.
Situated in the heights of Korab, Tejs boasts exceptional natural and climatic values, attracting visitors and foreign tourists in all four seasons. The surrounding area is rich in medicinal plants, such as primrose, wild cherry, sage, and black mullein, and is home to diverse wildlife within its forests.
