The Vjosa is one of the most important and unique rivers in Albania, known as one of the last great wild rivers in Europe. It is known for its rich flora and fauna, its condition, and its high ecological values.
Vjosa was declared a National Park in 2023, becoming the first National Park of a wild river in Europe. This status guarantees the protection of the free flow of the river and the preservation of the natural ecosystems that characterize it. The Vjosa Valley is also under the protection of UNESCO, which proves its natural and cultural importance on a global level.
The landscapes surrounding the river offer numerous opportunities for activities such as rafting, kayaking, mountain hiking and ecotourism. The course of the Vjosa includes various geomorphological segments, from narrow mountain gorges to braided branches in the lower plains and an almost natural delta in the Adriatic.
