Bistrica River

The Bistrica River is a small but important river in southwestern Albania, flowing towards the Ionian Sea. It has its source in the mountainous area of Mali i Gjerë and flows through various villages such as Pecë, Kardhikaq and Velahovo, collecting small branches along the way. One of its most famous sources is Syri i Kaltër, a famous tourist spot for its water clarity and natural beauty.

The river is about 25 km long and is not navigable, but is important for agriculture and grazing in the surrounding areas. Several hydroelectric power plants have been built on it, while its flow has been diverted to flow directly into the Ionian Sea through the canal. Chuka, since 1958.
