Grama Bay, located on the Karaburun Peninsula along the Ionian coast, is a magnificent natural gem of Albania. In ancient times, this bay was known as a haven for ships seeking protection from the raging waves of the sea.
The name of the bay, which translates as “Bay of Writings” or “Bay of Engravings,” is closely related to the ancient inscriptions carved into its rocks. Over 1500 inscriptions have been recorded, the oldest of which are in Greek and date back to the last centuries BC. The inscriptions are often prayers and requests for salvation or favorable winds, addressed to Jesus.
Today, visitors to Grama Bay are no longer sailors, warriors or pirates, but tourists who come to enjoy one of the most beautiful bays in Albania. The bay is characterized by crystal clear waters and steep cliffs, the result of centuries of natural erosion.
