The village of Gjinar is located about 22–24 km southeast of the city of Elbasan and is accessible by the Elbasan - Gjinar highway, lying in the middle of a mountainous landscape full of forests, rich nature and manifestations of cultural heritage that make it an attractive destination for local and foreign tourists.
Gjinari is often described as a pearl of mountain tourism in the Shpati area, surrounded by pine forests and mountainous terrain that make it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, study and adventure expeditions, but also other sports such as rally racing or mountain biking, especially in the warmer seasons.
Gjinar is also a place where mountain tourism and agrotourism are developing. The village's tourist center is being improved with investments in infrastructure, recreational spaces, a park and a plan for an information center/museum of the Shpati area, which aims to promote local culture and traditions to visitors.
The area is frequented throughout the year, from nature lovers in spring and summer, to those who love winter landscapes or mountain sports when it snows.
The Gjinari Bazaar and local produce market are popular among residents and visitors, promoting the economic development of the community.
Some of the cultural heritage attractions of the village are Bukaniku Mountain, a destination for hiking; the church of Shën Kolli, for whose frescoes the most famous Albanian iconographer Onufri worked; the Church of Valeshi or the Church of Shën e Premte; the Church of Gjinari, or even natural monuments such as the Dushku i Lleshanit, a centuries-old tree, protected by the state; the canyons of Valeshi and Selta.
