The “Zihni Sako” Theater is the main performing arts institution in Gjirokastër, serving as a center for theatrical performances, comedies, dramas, and various cultural events. Founded during the socialist period, it is named after the renowned Gjirokastrian actor and director Zihni Sako, one of the most important figures of Albanian theater.
The theater building has had infrastructure problems and has been involved in several reconstruction projects, including a project envisaged for complete redevelopment, which, however, was not fully finalized due to the building's depreciation and technical difficulties.
Despite the challenges, the "Zihni Sako" Theater remains an active center of Gjirokastra's cultural life, hosting local premieres, youth festivals, and artistic activities, keeping alive the city's rich tradition in the field of art and culture.
