Kukës is not only a beautiful mountainous nature, but also a rich center of cultural and ethnographic heritage. This area is considered as cradle of popular culture, preserving the material and spiritual values ​​that serve as attractions for tourists.

Craftsmanship and Traditional Trades

  • Until 1925, handicrafts in Kukës were mainly HOUSE, preparing clothing, tools and products for family use.
  • After 1925, when Kukës became the prefecture center, the craft began to develop more professionally, including photography, tailoring, carpentry, and fruit growing.
  • After the 1950s, handicrafts became a major economic and cultural branch, including products that we see today as part of the tourist offer: traditional clothing, songs, dances, and musical instruments.

Ethnographic Region

The Kukes district contains three main ethnographic areas, each with unique features:

  1. Malziu Province – Her clothing is similar to the clothing of Tropoja, but with simpler and more refined workmanship.
  2. River Region – Characterized by white wrappers, with special traditional details.
  3. Gora Province – The clothes have different variations according to age, with colors and ornaments specific to this area.

Traditional Clothing

  • For women and girls, the wraps, dresses and adornments vary significantly from one region to another, offering a colorful and culturally rich picture.
