Durrës Archaeological Park

The Archaeological Park of Durrës is located in the center of the coastal city and represents one of the most important historical and archaeological centers of Albania. Founded by Greek colonists from Korkyra and Corinth in the 7th century BC under the name Epidamnos, and later known as Dyrrachium in the Roman period, Durrës became one of the largest and richest cities on the Adriatic.

The park includes important monuments that testify to its millennial history. Among the most famous is the Durrës Amphitheater, built in the 2nd century AD, one of the largest in the Balkans, with a considerable capacity. Also within the park are the Arapaj Mosaic, Roman baths, Byzantine and Venetian walls, as well as ruins of temples, basilicas and dwellings that show the urban and cultural development of the city over the centuries.

The park's location, near the sea and in the center of the modern city, makes Durrës a place where ancient history intertwines with the contemporary rhythm. The Archaeological Park of Durrës is an irreplaceable destination for visitors who want to explore the Illyrian, Greek and Roman heritage, experiencing firsthand the history of one of the oldest and most important cities in the Mediterranean.
