Archaeological Park of Bylis is located in the Mallakastra area, near the village of Hekal, and is one of the most important archaeological centers of Albania. Situated on a hilltop, it offers extensive views that include parts of the Albanian territory, the Adriatic coast, the Myzeqe Plain and the Tomorri mountain. This ancient Illyrian city, called Ballaite, represents a developed civilization and has a special place in the history of the region.
Bylis has a complex urban structure that includes a theater with a capacity for 7,500 spectators, which served as a space for cultural events and important civic gatherings. In addition to the theater, the city had a stadium, two promenades, a water tank, a prytaneon, a gymnasium, altars, housing, and organized streets. It was also a center for various crafts, including pottery, metalworking, and coinage.
Today, Bylisi is a favorite destination for tourists and scholars seeking to learn more about the Illyrian civilization and Greco-Roman influences in Albania.
