Wood carving is one of the most artistic Albanian crafts and has produced extraordinary objects, from simple furniture to cult elements.
Especially mentioned are masters like Stefan Barka and Naum Ngjela, who created wonderful iconostases in the churches of Berat in the 19th century.
Woodworking includes:
- iconostases, icon frames, church doors,
- wall cabinets, carved ceilings, railings and balconies,
- bridal chests, spoons and kitchen utensils,
- simple home furnishings, but with rich geometric and floral motifs.
The motifs used, the tree of life, grapes, flowers, spirals, symbolize faith, growth and connection with nature.
