“The Lawn of Tears” is known as the place where emigrants were escorted in the 19th century. It used to be filled with tears, from women waiting for their husbands or mothers to receive their sons who had fled into exile, or for news that they were alive and well. Emigration would keep alive not only the city’s economy, but would also influence the country’s culture by bringing to the country what is left as a legacy from the past. The Lawn of Tears, which still bears the same name today, the lawn where people once cried, is today a recreational space for citizens.
