Tomorri National Park

Tomorri is not only a physical relief, it is also a sacred mountain in Albanian cultural tradition. For centuries, this mountain has been the subject of legends and beliefs, being described in folk myths as the home of the mythological figure of Baba Tomorri, a white-bearded giant who “protects” the surrounding lands. It has been associated with pagan cults, later with various religious beliefs, and is considered sacred even today by various communities, including the Bektashi believers who climb the peak every year to honor Abas Ali, near his historic tomb.

For tourists, Mount Tomorri is a destination that offers many dimensions to explore. Home to a dramatic landscape, it offers opportunities for hiking and mountain climbing, with a panorama that includes the Berat region and the vast surrounding plains, natural sports such as hiking, skiing in winter, or even bike or horse trails, religious pilgrimages, especially in the period 20–25 August, when believers and visitors from all over Albania and beyond climb to the holy shrine at its peak, and camping and outdoor exploration, thanks to the mountain roads and areas that offer a deep combination of nature and alpine tranquility.

From a vantage point in the surrounding villages to its peaks rising into the cold-weather clouds, Mount Tomorri is more than a mountain, it is a living legend that speaks of history, faith and the untouched beauty of Albanian nature. It captivates the hearts of those seeking natural adventure, spiritual peace and a deep sense of connection to the land and culture of Berat.
