Alarup-Mali i Thate Trail

An unforgettable adventure awaits you in The Dry Mountain, the highest point of the Lake Ohrid basin at 2288 meters above sea level. After a 30-minute drive from Pogradec to the village of Alarup (20 km), a hiking trail begins that will take you to the top through a spectacular landscape. From the top, you will enjoy a stunning panorama with Lake Ohrid, Lake Prespa, and three protected areas: Pogradec Protected Landscape, Prespa National Park (in Albania) and Galicica National Park (in North Macedonia). This mountain, called “Dry” due to the lack of water, offers a unique nature with shrubs, oaks, holm oaks and alpine pastures.

The area is rich in endemic species and serves as a vital bio-corridor for wild flora and fauna between the two national parks. The road passes by historical water reservoirs, built during the communist period. The trail is quite steep and requires physical preparation, but still for tourists it remains a unique experience in the heart of untouched nature. Prepare for a true mountain exploration with fantastic landscapes and natural inspiration!
