The Gashi River is located in the extreme north of Albania, in the Tropoja area, and constitutes one of the best preserved ecosystems of the Albanian Alps. It originates in the Gashi Mountains massif and traverses a deep mountainous territory, rich in beech, fir and black pine forests, forming a wild and untouched landscape.
The river flows through deep valleys, steep slopes and canyons, offering spectacular views for climbers, hikers and biodiversity enthusiasts. The area is also known for its traditional pastoral routes, which connect Albania with Montenegro and Kosovo.
The Gashi River has been declared a Natural Park and UNESCO World Natural Heritage Monument for its biological values, virgin forests and unique alpine landscape. It represents one of the best preserved areas in Europe in terms of natural forest ecosystems and is an important destination for ecotourism, flora and fauna observation and mountain exploration.
