The National Historical Museum (NHM) was inaugurated on 28 October 1981. As the most important museum in Albania, the National Historical Museum aims to provide knowledge and appreciation of the history of Albania to the local, national and international public. It also aims to encourage dialogue among citizens about the Albanian past, present and future. To this end, the NHM preserves and studies material and intangible evidence of Albania’s historical and cultural heritage, which is communicated and presented in an environment that fosters education and entertainment.
The museum premises contain about 4750 objects, which belong to a relatively long period of time starting from the 4th millennium BC and up to the second half of the 20th century. The museum is designed to be presented through eight pavilions. The National Historical Museum is a scientific research institution, where in addition to the pavilions, there are also archive and laboratory facilities, temporary exhibition halls and conference halls.
