The Marubi National Museum of Photography, opened on May 9, 2016 in Shkodër, is the first institution of its kind in Albania and one of the most unique in the Balkans. It preserves the legacy of the Marubi dynasty, founded by Pietro Marubi in the mid-19th century and continued by Kel and Gegë Marubi.
The museum has over 500,000 negatives and photographs documenting Albanian life, historical events and landscapes for more than a century. Its spaces are modern and interactive, displaying original photographs, historical equipment and archival materials, while temporary exhibitions combine tradition with contemporary art.
Today, the "Marubi" museum is an important center of Albanian visual memory, preserving the history of photography and enriching the cultural life of Shkodra with artistic and educational activities.
