The National Museum of Independence

The National Museum of Independence is located in Vlora, in the historic building where the Independence of Albania was declared on November 28, 1912, and where the first Albanian government, headed by Ismail Qemali, was established. This is the first Albanian national museum, established in 1936, and represents one of the most important monuments of national identity.

Its premises preserve original objects from the period of the National Renaissance and Independence, including historical documents, flags, personal belongings of patriots, and works of art dedicated to this glorious moment in Albanian history.

In 2002, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the declaration of Independence, the museum underwent a complete rehabilitation, improving the infrastructure and the way materials were presented to visitors.

A further renovation is planned for 2025, aimed at enriching the museum collection and developing modern educational programs, with the inclusion of immersive technologies and engaging the younger generation in learning about the history of Independence.

Today, the National Museum of Independence remains a symbol of national unity and an indispensable historical and educational destination, proudly preserving the memory of the founding of the Albanian state.
