The Historical Museum of Shkodra is one of the oldest institutions of cultural memory in Albania. It began to be organized in 1947 under the name “People’s Museum” and took its full form in 1949. Initially located in a monumental building of the 19th century, in the city center, the museum was transferred in 1996 to the monumental apartment “Oso Kuka House”, where it is still located today.
This characteristic Shkodra house, with traditional architecture and authentic building elements, represents a historical and ethnographic value in itself. It houses several main exhibition sections such as: Archaeology, Ethnography, Visual Arts (painting and sculpture) and the Library, which constitute a complete journey through the history and culture of the city.
The museum's exhibits include archaeological finds, traditional clothing, old weapons, handicrafts, and everyday objects, which reflect the historical and cultural development of Shkodra over the centuries.
Today, the Historical Museum of Shkodra, located in one of the city's most beautiful traditional buildings, remains an important center for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, which testifies to Shkodra's role as one of the oldest and richest centers in Albanian history.
