Himara is one of the few places in Albania where a distinct dialect of Greek is spoken, alongside Albanian. This is due to its very ancient history and the cultural intertwining between Albanians and Greeks in the area. Many villages around Himara, such as Dhërmi, Piluri and Qeparoi, have historically had bilingual populations.
