Albanian Iso Polyphony : Southern Albania (Labëria) is one of the most precious cultural assets of Himara and the surrounding area.
This is a unique form of traditional song sung in a group, with several voices intertwining in polyphonic harmony. In Himara and surrounding villages such as Pilur, Kudhës, Qeparo and Dhërmi, polyphony is part of the local identity and is passed down from generation to generation.
Albanian polyphony is so special that in 2005 it was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
At weddings, parties, and other events, polyphonic songs are never missing — they are the way people express their history, feelings, and belonging.
