The Koshorisht Hermit Cave is one of the most unique natural and cultural attractions in the Librazhd district, located on the slopes of Mount Letmi near the village of Koshorisht and has been declared a First Category Cultural Monument. It is also known as the “Church Cave” because its walls and ceiling are decorated with murals with biblical motifs, including figures of Christ, the Virgin Mary and other important scenes, which are among the earliest and largest paintings in Albania. The cave has a large variety of spaces that create a fascinating natural and spiritual environment, and is frequently visited by local and foreign tourists who are amazed by the combination of rock geology and ancient art. The walls decorated with paintings illustrate both biblical elements and human figures, thought to represent figures from the local historical aristocracy, and are the subject of study and interpretation by historians and archaeologists. In its natural setting, the cave serves as an important religious, cultural and tourist site, and is part of the tradition of exploring hermit caves in the Middle Ages in Albania. A visit to this cave offers a journey back in time between untouched nature and deep historical heritage, making it one of the most special destinations in Librazhd.
