Petrela Castle is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Tirana, on a hill with stunning views over the Erzen River and the surrounding fields. It dates back to ancient times, but took on its current form in the 15th century, during the time of Skanderbeg. The castle served as a strategic observation and defense point for the southern entrance to Tirana.
One of the castle's most famous features is its connection to Mamica, Skanderbeg's sister, who is said to have lived there. Today, the castle is partially restored and includes a traditional restaurant, offering visitors not only history, but also food and panoramic views.
