The Berat Castle is one of the most important historical and architectural monuments in Albania. Situated on a high hill above the Osumi River, this castle offers an impressive view of the city and its surroundings. It dates back to antiquity, but was rebuilt and developed during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods.
Within the walls of the castle are still inhabited dwellings, as well as monuments of great historical and religious importance, including Orthodox churches with medieval frescoes, ruins of mosques and Onufri Museum, which preserves precious icons of Albanian Byzantine art.
The Berat Castle is part of UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a visit there offers a rich cultural, historical and panoramic experience for every traveler.
