The Church of Marmiroi is located near the ancient city of Orikum, south of the city of Vlora, and represents one of the most important monuments of the Byzantine ecclesiastical heritage in Albania. Built in the 12th century, the church belongs to the central domed style of construction and has an internal cruciform plan, characteristic of Byzantine architecture of the late Middle Ages. Built of hewn limestone and brick, the building preserves elements valued for the simplicity and purity of its architectural lines.
Its location near the Orikum lagoon and in a peaceful natural environment further adds to the historical and spiritual value of this monument. The church has functioned as a religious center for the local community and is an important testimony to the continuity of church life in southern Albania during the Middle Ages. Today, it enjoys the status of a cultural monument and is a legally protected object, while it is visited by scholars, believers and tourists seeking to get to know the cultural and spiritual heritage of the area more closely.
