The Gjon Boçari Castle is located in the village of Dukat, in the administrative territory of the Municipality of Vlora, and represents an object of special historical, architectural and cultural value. Built in the second half of the 18th century by the renowned Boçari family, the fortification served as a residence and at the same time as a defensive structure in the context of resistance to Ottoman rule. Within its walls are preserved traces of residential structures and functional spaces belonging to a noble residence with a military character.
The geostrategic position of the castle has been of particular importance for the supervision of the Dukat valley and the important roads connecting the coast with the interior of the country. Today, the Gjon Boçar Castle is a first category monument, protected by law, and represents an important element of the cultural heritage of the Municipality of Vlora.
