Cerujë Castle was built in the Rrase neighborhood of the village of Cerujë, at an altitude of 1218m.
The construction of the Ceruja Castle was done according to the tradition of that time, using the terrain. The construction of the castle at this height was done for the following reasons:
1. Control of the ancient caravan route
2. The feudal house, as the owner of the castle, used this position in order to have control over the properties that stretched along the Mat River.
3. The time when the castle was built coincides with the time when the southern Slavs forcibly settled in the Mat valley, sending the locals to the mountains. The construction of the castle and the gathering of the inhabitants around it would serve to protect the country and freedom, which was achieved after a three-century long war.
