The municipality of Tropoja lies along the Valbona Valley and borders Kosovo to the east, making it a natural bridge between the two countries. The municipality consists of the administrative units of Bajram Curri, Bujan, Bytyç, Fierzë, Lekbibaj, Llugaj, Margegaj and Tropoja. The seat of the municipality is the town of Bajram Curri.
The territory of Tropoja is rich in rare natural resources, high mountains, rivers and forests which preserve an extraordinary biodiversity. The Gashi River Valley and the surrounding forests are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, as part of the network of Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and other Regions of Europe, making Tropoja a destination of particular natural and international importance.
