Shkodra, the city of history and nature

Shkodra, one of the oldest cities in Albania, is located in the northwest of the country, near Lake Shkodra, one of the largest lakes in the region, as well as the Buna, Drin and Kir rivers. Its surroundings offer a panorama towards the Northern Alps, making the city one of the most important destinations for nature, culture and history.

Rozafa Castle, built on a strategic hill, is the most recognizable symbol of the city and offers impressive views over the lake and the entire surrounding area. Shkodra is also home to several important cultural institutions, among which the National Museum of Photography “Marubi”, one of the most important photography museums in the region, preserves and exhibits a unique heritage of Albanian photographic art.

In addition, the city also includes the Historical Museum, monuments of religious heritage such as the Lead Mosque and several characteristic churches, which testify to the cultural and historical stratifications of Shkodra over the centuries. The historical centers, traditional alleys and characteristic architecture preserve the authentic atmosphere of the city.

Shkodra's cultural life is vibrant throughout the year, with artistic activities, exhibitions, concerts and events that promote Shkodra's tradition and civic music.

The city's surroundings are rich in natural beauty. Lake Shkodra offers opportunities for water sports, boating, wildlife watching and fishing. Shkodra also serves as an ideal starting point for visiting popular mountain destinations such as Thethi, Vermoshi and other alpine villages, where visitors can experience local traditions and the characteristic hospitality of the area.

With its combination of rich history, vibrant culture, and magnificent landscapes, Shkodra remains one of the most important Albanian tourism destinations.
