The name “Pathos” is derived from ancient Greek and derives its meaning from the fires that erupted in the tar sands of this area. The three settlements named Patos: Patosi Fshat, Patosi i Vjetër and Patosi i Ri are closely associated with the development of the oil industry.

The new city of Patos began to be created in June 1949 and was named the City of Oilmen due to the hard work of engineers and ordinary specialists, who have made an important contribution to the country's economy. Patos is the capital of the oil industry in Albania. 

The city is not only known as the source of oil, but is also famous for its agriculture, livestock and traditions. In the hilly areas of the Patos Municipality, olives have an old tradition, dating back to ancient times. This is clearly evidenced by dozens of oil amphorae found in archaeological excavations carried out in the underground of this area. As an early tradition, the processing
Until World War II, oil was produced with primitive mills, which in the vernacular were called "mëngra".

It is no coincidence that olive and viticulture are two of the most developed and widespread cultures in this entire area.
The underground black gold is also the source of natural resources, which is flourishing more and more every day in the magnificent hills of Patos.

Patos has a typical Mediterranean climate, with mild and wet winters and hot and dry summers. In winter, average temperatures are around 5 degrees Celsius, while in summer they range from 28 to 35 degrees Celsius. Precipitation falls mainly in
form of rain, while snow is a rare occurrence.

Patos displays a variety of historical, natural and heritage values ​​of Albania, this small but very attractive city carries treasures within its interior. Today Patos is ready to be explored by local and foreign visitors.
