The city of Tepelena is located in southern Albania, in an important geographical position where the Vjosa and Drino rivers meet, creating a natural connecting node between the south and the central part of the country. This strategic position has made Tepelena a place of historical importance since ancient times. The city is especially known as the birthplace of Ali Pasha Tepelena, one of the most famous figures in Albanian and Ottoman history of the 18th–19th centuries, who turned Tepelena into a center of political and military influence in the Balkans.
Tepelena also offers several tourist attractions with historical and natural values, such as the Tepelena Castle, which preserves traces of the Ali Pasha period, as well as the promenade along the Vjosa River, one of the last wild rivers in Europe. Near the city are famous destinations such as the Peshtura Waterfall and villages with traditional architecture. An interesting curiosity is that Tepelena has been frequently mentioned by foreign travelers and writers of past centuries, who described it as a place with magnificent nature and rich history, making it a special point on the cultural map of Albania.
