The forests of Kolonja constitute an important part of the nature and forest fund of this district in southeastern Albania. About 60.4% of the forest area is classified as high-natural forests, which preserve biodiversity and natural structure, while the rest consists of artificial afforestation. The forests provide timber, support ecosystems with diverse flora and fauna, help preserve soil from erosion, contribute to the protection of water resources and play a key role in the ecological balance, reflecting the sustainable management of the forest fund. However, they face serious threats, including illegal logging for firewood and damage from fires, which have in some cases destroyed significant forest areas. The forests of Kolonja, part of the highlands and mountainous reliefs such as Mali Gramoz, also offer opportunities for nature tourism, hiking and exploration, being a valuable source of biodiversity and part of the mountainous landscape and natural wealth of the area. In summary, the forests of Kolonja represent an important natural and environmental asset, providing timber, nature and identity for the community, but their preservation requires attention to prevent illegal logging, fires and degradation, so that they remain inherited for future generations.
