Velipoja is one of the pearls of coastal tourism in northern Albania and an ever-growing destination for local and foreign visitors seeking tranquility, unspoiled nature and unique experiences by the sea. Located at the confluence of the Buna River into the Adriatic Sea, about 30 kilometers from the city of Shkodra, this area offers a unique combination of gentle coastal landscape with the biodiversity of the surrounding protected areas.
Velipoja Beach is the longest beach in Albania, stretching for about 14 kilometers and up to 200 meters wide, offering plenty of space for vacationers. The fine, dark-colored sand is composed of mineral compounds that are considered to have curative properties for rheumatism and skin diseases, so it is often referred to as “healing sand.” Many visitors, both local and foreign, use the sand for therapeutic sunbathing, known in traditional folk medicine.
