"The City of Alexander" is today known as the village of Skenderaj. It was once also called Spilaj or Aleksan., all these names referring to the same territory. In this area, wall fragments, earthen and rock dwellings, as well as ancient tombs, such as the tomb of Saint Theodore (gift of God) have been found. This place preserves an ancient monument that challenges the division between real and unreal, between historical truth and folklore; the best known example is vThe achievement of the Kulen Girl, whose authorship cannot be appropriated by either the princes or the beys who ruled these lands.
During the "cooperative" period, the Skenderaj neighborhood developed by adding fertile cultivated lands and today has approximately 800 inhabitants. The name of the village was preserved and transmitted for centuries, reflecting the connection with Alexander (Skander), from which the present-day name Skenderaj derives.
