The Middle Bridge is located about 8 km from the city of Shkodra, over the Kir River, and is one of the most famous monuments of Ottoman architecture in Albania. It was built in 1768 by Mehmet Pasha Bushati to connect the mountain villages of the area with the city of Shkodra, facilitating trade and movement at a time when modern roads did not exist.
The bridge is 108 meters long and 3.4 meters wide, and consists of 13 stone arches placed on a rugged terrain, following the natural flow of the Kir River. The arches have different sizes and shapes, while the material used - carved stones and traditional connectors - has made the bridge durable for more than two centuries.
For visitors, the Middle Bridge offers a unique experience through the surrounding natural landscape: the clear river, the rocks and the greenery of the area create an attractive and peaceful view. The bridge remains an important historical and architectural attraction, testifying to the craftsmanship of the construction and the strategic importance of the Shkodra area over the centuries.
