Antigonea is one of the most important archaeological settlements in Albania, located near the village of Palokastër, near Gjirokastër. It was founded by King Pyrrhus of Epirus in the 3rd century BC and served as an important political, cultural and military center of the time. The city had an organized urban plan, with straight streets, defensive walls and public buildings, which testify to its high level of development.
Today, Antigonea preserves remnants of fortification walls, temple ruins and other architectural objects, offering a glimpse into life in the ancient city. This archaeological site represents an important part of Albania's historical heritage and is a special destination for those who want to explore the history and urban development of ancient Epirus.
