“Saint George” Church (Strum/Strumë)

The Church of St. George is located in the village of Strum, near Roskovec, and is classified as a “Cultural Monument” for its historical, architectural and cultural values. Built in 1782, the church has a simple architectural form, with stone walls, a single-aisled nave and apse, covered with a wooden ceiling and oriented east-west. Its bell tower, once located above the entrance gate on the west side, has given the building the typical character of Orthodox churches of the period.

The interior of the church is rich in frescoes and mural paintings made by the Çetiri brothers family from Grabova, making it a special value for the Albanian iconographic tradition. The Church of St. George has been known as one of the most beautiful in southern Albania for its artistic values and has played an important role in the identity and religious life of the community of Strum and the surrounding area.
