The Solomon Museum is located in the city of Berat and represents one of the most unique initiatives for preserving the history of a small community, but with an important contribution to the social life of the city. Founded in 2018 by Professor Simon Vrusho, the museum is the only one in Albania dedicated entirely to the history of the Jewish community in Berat and beyond.
The museum documents the presence and life of the Jews who settled and took refuge in Berat over the centuries, particularly during World War II, when the city became a safe haven for many Jewish families fleeing persecution. The exhibits include personal objects, original photographs, documents, testimonies, as well as documented facts that testify to the harmonious coexistence between the Jewish community and the local population.
Through these materials, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the history of Albanian solidarity towards Jews, a bright chapter in human history, where Albanians protected Jews regardless of the danger, sheltering them in their homes, often under the principle of honor and loyalty.
The museum is named "Solomon" in memory of one of the Jewish figures and symbolizes the preservation of the cultural, spiritual and historical heritage of this community that, although small in number, has been present and active in the life of the city.
After the passing of its founder, Professor Vrusho, the museum continues to remain an important place for civic and historical education, as well as a moving testimony of the contribution of the city of Berat to the protection of the universal values of humanity.
