Skanderbeg square

Skanderbeg Square represents one of Tirana's most important and well-known public spaces, developed in different historical periods and redeveloped into its current form in 2017. The reconstruction project was internationally acclaimed, winning the European Prize for Urban Public Space in 2018 as well as the Design of the Year – Architecture award from the London Design Museum.

The area is surrounded by major institutions of the country such as the National History Museum, the Opera and Ballet Theater, the National Library, the Municipality of Tirana and the Bank of Albania, which make this space an important reference point for visitors. The surface of the square is paved with natural stones collected from all regions of Albania, creating a unique urban and cultural identity, while the green spaces provide an open and accessible environment for the public.

Skanderbeg Square is widely used for cultural events, national and international festivals, exhibitions and artistic activities, becoming one of the main destinations for those who wish to learn about the architectural development, institutional function and urban life of the Albanian capital.
