Monastery of “Saint Tryphon”

The mausoleum of "Saint Tryphon" is located in Frashër i Zharrzë.

Inscriptions carved into the stone (1804 – 1831) have been found on it, which are thought to coincide with the period of its construction. It is dedicated to the martyr Tryphon of Itea and is commemorated as a religious holiday on July 14 of each year where believers celebrate and pray for good harvests and happy bread. It is otherwise known as the feast of the land (the feast of the pagans) and dates back about 300-400 years ago. The building consists of the church “The Entry of the Virgin Mary into the Temple”, a chapel-mausoleum, guest houses and other auxiliary premises.

The church, as evidenced by the inscription on its southern gate, was built on March 25, 1804. The chapel-mausoleum next to it was built in 1847, when the remains of the martyr Tryphon were found by believers in the cemetery next to it. Several spolia, sculptures and ancient inscriptions have been found on the walls of its buildings. One such is the inscription of Cecilia Venusta, which is currently exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Apollonia.

Near the Church there is a well, which testifies to an early settlement.
