The Monastery of St. Mary or “Raven Monastery” as the locals call it, is located in the village of Goranxi and constitutes one of the most important religious and cultural monuments of the Municipality of Dropulli. This religious object has served for centuries as a center of faith for local residents, but also as a place of pilgrimage for believers from the surrounding area. Built in a peaceful and natural environment, the monastery creates a special harmony between architecture and landscape.
The church was built in 1600 by the hieromonk Christopher. This is confirmed by an inscription carved in stone above the western gate inside the narthex: “Queen of all prophets, called the offspring of Joachim and the barren Anna, who was made worthy to hear the voice of the angel who said: Rejoice, you who are full of joy from the Almighty, girl, virgin and mother, accept the prayer from me to your servant the hieromonk Christopher, who built your temple with desire, the year of the birth of Christ 1600”.
The monastery has outstanding historical and spiritual values, testifying to the continuity of the Orthodox faith and tradition in this region. Today, the Monastery of St. Mary in Goranxi remains a precious cultural asset and a living testimony to the religious heritage of the area.
