National Museum of Photography "Marubi"

The National Museum of Photography “Marubi”, in Shkodër, represents the most important archive of historical photography in Albania and one of the most valuable visual collections in the Balkans. Its legacy begins with the studio founded by Pietro Marubbi in the mid-19th century and is enriched over a period of three generations of photographers. The archive contains hundreds of thousands of negatives, including glass plates and roll films, documenting people, cities, historical events and social life in Albania from the late 19th to the mid-20th century.

After the restoration and processing of the collection, the “Marubi” Museum was inaugurated in its contemporary form on May 9, 2016. The collection occupies a special place in the cultural and visual history of the country and is one of the main sources of historical documentation for Albanians and international researchers.
