The White Mosque, built in the second half of the 15th century, is located within the Berat fortress and is thought to have served the rulers and the military garrison. It had a compact structure, with a prayer hall, a wide porch and polygonal minarets. The ruins seen today date back more to the late 18th or early 19th century, as the mosque was severely damaged during the Tanzimat uprising. Although only ruins remain today, the building remains an important testament to Ottoman history and architecture in Berat.
