At the heart of Illyrian history, on the eastern side of Gradishte hill, lie the Monumental Tombs of Lower Selca – a rare archaeological treasure dating back to the 4th–3rd centuries BC.
These tombs are carved into the rock and represent one of the most beautiful examples of Illyrian funerary architecture. A total of five monumental tombs have been discovered, divided into three groups located about 100 meters apart. Four of them are carved directly into the rocky face of the hill, while the fifth is built with stone vaults, an impressive construction technique for the time.
The tombs are located between the acropolis and the outer quarters of the ancient city of Selce, and represent the most developed and glorious period of this Illyrian city. The tombs are located about 42 km northwest of Pogradec.
- The road to the village of Golik is in very good condition.
- The segment from Golik to Selca e Poshtme is currently under reconstruction and may be difficult for large vehicles.
- It is recommended: Buses with more than 30 passengers stop in the village of Urake, and the journey continues by minibuses or small cars.
