The Beçisht Bridge is a historic bridge located over the Vjosa River, below the Tepelena Castle, in southern Albania. It has very old origins, with traces relating to a construction from the Roman period, around the middle of the 1st century BC, and was subsequently rebuilt in various medieval periods on Roman foundations.
The main element of its present-day form dates back to 1819, when Ali Pasha Tepelena, the renowned local leader of the time, completely rebuilt the bridge on the ruins of the older bridge, to give it the structure it is known for today.
The bridge stretches for about 260 meters and has traditionally served as a key part of the local communication network, connecting the town of Tepelena with at least seven villages across the Vjosa and enabling the passage of residents, goods, and economic communication over the years.
