The aqueduct bridge in the Dunavat neighborhood, known as “Ali Pasha’s Bridge”, is one of the most important remains of the historic aqueduct that once supplied the Gjirokastra Castle with water from the Sopot mountain. Built of stone and 16 meters high, the bridge represents the craftsmanship of the architect Petro Korçari and the Gjirokastra stonemasons. The aqueduct was built by Ali Pasha Tepelena around 1812-1813 and is also immortalized in a painting by Eduard Lear. Today, the bridge remains an important historical, architectural and touristic testimony.
