The Historical Museum of Fier is one of the most important cultural institutions in the city, reflecting the history and heritage of the Myzeqe and Apollonia regions. The first ideas for its creation were conceived in 1936 by archaeologist Leon Rei, with the aim of preserving the objects discovered in the ancient city of Apollonia, but the museum was realized only after the Liberation.
Initially, the museum consisted of several exhibitions on fauna, flora and the National Liberation War, located in small premises in the city center. In 1951, it was transferred to the “Liri” neighborhood, while in 1953 it moved to a two-story building in the “Apolonia” neighborhood.
Since July 18, 1978, the museum has been located in the "Kastriot" neighborhood, in the building where it still operates today. Well-known personalities such as Neritan Ceka, Myzafer Korkuti, Paskal Milo, Iljaz Gogaj and the artist Vilson Kilica contributed to its establishment.
Today, the museum contains archaeological, ethnographic and historical collections, serving as an important center of culture and historical memory of Fier.
