Lëkurës Castle is located near the city of Saranda, in southern Albania, and is one of the most important historical fortifications in the area. It was built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent during the Ottoman period, with the aim of protecting the port and controlling the sea and land routes against Venetian influences. The castle preserves the fortified walls and parts of the interior buildings that show the military architecture of the time, while from there a panoramic view opens over the city, the coast and the Ionian Sea.
