Gjirokastra Castle

The Gjirokastra Castle is one of the most magnificent and best-preserved monuments in Albania. Situated in the heart of the city of Gjirokastra, on a hill that offers impressive views over the Drinos valley, this castle has a history that dates back to the 4th century, but took on its current form during the Ottoman period.

Inside the fortress are several important attractions, including the Weapons Museum, the ruins of the infamous communist-era prison, and an American fighter jet, symbolic of the Cold War. It is also an important cultural center, hosting artistic activities, including the National Folklore Festival.

The Gjirokastra Castle is a must-see attraction for any visitor who wants to experience the unique history, architecture, and culture of the museum city.
